Life long learning is a valuable part of becoming successful in all regards. Learning new concepts, building relationships and even learning new languages are all fundamental components of strengthening skills and developing better business practice.
Beginning in February of 2009 Innovation Park has had the privilege to welcome Roger Ma to Kingston Ontario. Traveling all the way from China, Roger enrolled in the Queen’s School of English Business Internship Program (BIP) with the main objective to study Western culture. In partnership with the Shanghai Government, this 13 week training program is designed specifically for students who wish to advance their careers by improving their English language skills in the workplace and practicing them within the Canadian work environment.
As an intern at the Park, Roger has gained a wealth of knowledge in Canadian research and development, however he is no stranger to the industry. He currently works at one of Shanghai’s major industrial parks and has over 8 years of experience in business development.
During his time here in Kingston, Roger has witnessed the strong cultural differences between Western and Asian societies; one of the most notable differences being interaction. In Roger’s opinion Canada strongly encourages open discussions creating an environment for creativity and innovation. With a more detail oriented management style, our system fosters a better understanding of projects and expectations.
With this program, Roger has developed a strong business vocabulary and the confidence to work in a Western market. His renewed approach to business dynamics will surely make him a success within any organization.
Now that the program has ended, Roger is set to head back to Shanghai, but before he does he plans to travel the country and experience the warm pleasures of summer-time in Canada.
The Innovation Park team would like to thank Roger for his hard work and dedication throughout the past months and hopes this has been a rewarding experience for him.
Congratulations on your graduation and good luck!
