A mix of academic and business leaders took part in the Connect to Innovate panel discussion, held on Thursday at the Ambassador Hotel. The event provided an important forum for open discussion on industry-academic research collaborations.

“Partnerships are an essential feature of innovation and future economic growth,” says Queen’s V-P (Research) Steven Liss. “I believe these types of discussions amongst representatives from industry, academia and government programs foster a better understanding of the capacity of universities and colleges, and the opportunities for research collaborations. Today, we have raised awareness of the needs of businesses in our community. Our team looks forward to advancing greater interaction with potential partners, and initiating specific research collaborations which may arise as a result of today’s workshop.”

Panel participants: Cam McEachern (Director, Research, St. Lawrence College), Dr. Liss, Tim Smith (CEO, Octane Medical Group), John Hunter (Group Leader, Novelis Inc.), and Tom Wroe (President Metalcraft Marine).
